A Word for the Wise - Sabio
Get ready to dive plate first into the vibrant history of Spanish Tapas, which dates back over 700 years to the enchanting province of Cadiz.
The beloved King Alfonso X, seeking refreshment on a hot, breezy day, was treated to a delightful slice of cured ham covering his drink. He loved how the ham paired perfectly with the sherry, inspiring him to order more with the same ‘tapas’ or cover.
This delicious moment led the king to decree that all taverns serve drinks with tapas, igniting a culinary revolution across Spain! This is where the concept of the Tasca, a traditional Spanish tavern or bodega was formalized, celebrating both drinks and small bites.
His wise decision earned him the title ‘El Sabio’ the wise one, and while some might say it was due to his cultural contributions, we like to think his greatest gift is the beloved tapas bar.
In tribute to el Sabio, we opened our first tapas destination in 2011 at Duxton Hill in Singapore.
The legend continued to thrive in Bangkok, and now, we are proud to introduce our newest chapter: Tasca Sabio, honoring the traditional Spanish taverns where we all drink like Wise Kings.
